🧵 Midnight Harvest: A Quilt Block Rooted in Abundance and Intention

free midnight harvest quilt block. Pumpkin with Fence quilt block. two spiders. yellow plant

The free Midnight Harvest block is more than just the next pattern in the Nocturnal Soul Stitchery Quilt Along — it’s a quiet celebration of the season we’re in.

As I designed this block, I kept returning to the image of a pumpkin ripening under a harvest moon — grounded in the soil, shaped by light and time, full of texture and quiet beauty. Pumpkins have long symbolized harvest, provision, and abundance — themes that feel especially meaningful in the autumn of the year and the deeper rhythms of our lives.

This block was created with purpose: a nod to the natural world, a wink toward Halloween whimsy, and a moment to reflect on the blessings we’ve gathered, both big and small.

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” – Psalm 24:1

Even in our quiet making, we are participating in something divine — shaping beauty with our hands and honoring the gifts we’ve been given.

🧭 Tips for Using Phantom Fog in Midnight Harvest

If you’re using Phantom Fog by AGF in this block, you’ve chosen a stunning, moody directional print that adds a layer of drama and depth — perfect for this season’s theme.

But… it is directional, and that means a little extra planning goes a long way.

Here are a few quick tips:

  1. Identify the flow.
Phantom Fog features a horizontal movement, so decide up front whether you want the print to run across the pumpkin, radiate outward, or remain consistent in one direction.
  2. Cut with intention.
If you’re using Phantom Fog in half-square triangles or angled pieces, rotate your fabric first to ensure the print will face the way you want once sewn.
  3. Use it to create mood.
Want your pumpkin to feel like it’s emerging from the fog? Use Phantom Fog in the background. Want it to look layered and dimensional? Use it as part of the pumpkin body, alternating directions to create a wrapped effect.
  4. Lay out your pieces before sewing.
A quick mockup on your cutting mat or design wall can help you avoid any surprises — especially with diagonal pieces!

Working with directional prints can be a creative challenge, but it’s one that adds so much richness to your final block.

I hope the Midnight Harvest block brings you a moment of peace, a little playfulness, and a reminder of the beauty that comes when we stitch with care and purpose.
